Recently, National Department of Science and Technology has given approval document to the “National Digital Home Engineering Technology Research Center” (hereinafter referred to as engineering center) that our university applied for in 2010, and Professor Luo Xiaonan has been appointed as Director of the engineering center. From stages of project application, expert appraisal, on-site feasibility demonstration to the final defend of comprehensive assessment, the engineering center has got approval at last, which has established our university’s advantages and position in domestic digital home research field. This is the first national engineering technology research centre approved by Department of Science and Technology that our university has obtained, since our “National Engineering Research Center of South China Sea Marine Biotechnology” was approved by National Development and Reform Committee.

The Engineering Centre is jointly established by our university and TCL Corporation. This center will focus its research on the fundamental, critical and general engineering technology problems in digital home field, put a continuous effort on the systemization, integration, and engineerization of those important scientific research achievements, and promote the transformation and industrialization of those science and technology achievements within the field. Meanwhile, the engineering center will carry out some work, such as providing training for the high-level engineers and managers, introducing and assimilating advanced international technologies, with an aim to provide important backup for the innovation of our national digital home industry technology.
