Dr. Xin Mei won the 2017 WFNS Young Neurosurgeon Award

The WFNS XVI. World Congress of Neurosurgery was held in Istanbul, Turkey on August 20-25, 2017. Dr. Xin Mei from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital won the 2017 WFNS Young Neurosurgeon Award. At the closing ceremony of the meeting, Dr. Xin Mei donated the 1,500 USD prize to the WFNS Foundation to support the neurosurgeon training center in Africa.

Founded in 1955, the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) is a professional, scientific, non-governmental organization comprising of 130 member societies, consisting of 5 Continental Associations, 119 National Neurosurgical Societies and 6 Affiliate Societies, representing over 30,000 neurosurgeons worldwide. The mission of the WFNS is to work together with its member societies to improve worldwide neurosurgical care, training and research to benefit the patients.

Successive WFNS Young Neurosurgeons Awardees were famous in National Neurosurgical Societies and made great contribution to the development of the world neurosurgery. Some have even served as the presidents of WFNS. They are the newly emerging forces of the world neurosurgery societies.

Brief introduction to Dr. Xin Mei:
Xin Mei, Resident, Department of Neurosurgery, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou, China. Dr. Xin Mei earned his medical degree from Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center. There he was supported by the Sun Yat-sen University Cancer Center fellowship. Since 2011, he has been a researcher in neuro-oncology at the State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, focusing on vasculogenic mimicry in glioblastoma. He has obtained the Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certificate. He also received the honor of excellent conference papers at the 4th Guangzhou International Symposium on Oncology and the 2015 CSNO conference. He has published 6 papers which focus on increasing the survival time of glioblastoma patients and looking for the precision diagnosis and treatment of them.
