Professor Zhang Peizhen has been engaged in the study of seismic geology and contemporary crustal movements for a long time. He has conducted extensive research in the areas of contemporary tectonic deformation and fault activity in mainland China, the recurrence patterns of strong earthquakes, the gestation process and formation mechanisms of the Wenchuan earthquake, the characteristics of active faults and paleoseismicity in the sea areas, and the use of GNSS technology to study the contemporary crustal movements in the South China Sea and its surrounding areas. His work has made a substantial impact both home and abroad.
