On November 13, Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and St. John's College signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster academic exchanges between teachers and students, aiming to elevate the quality of talent cultivation.

Gao Song, president of SYSU, extended a warm welcome to President J. Walter Sterling on his visit to Sun Yat-sen University on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the university, and introduced the university's development in recent years. Gao highlighted the decade-long partnership between Boya College of SYSU and St. John's College. He hopes that the two sides will continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation to promote integration of liberal arts education and professional education.

J. Walter Sterling also gave an overview of St. John's College, emphasizing that in the face of numerous global challenges, humanities education and internationalization are crucial for enhancing the quality of talent cultivation.
He noted that St. John's College and Boya College share similarities in talent cultivation, particularly in the areas of classic literature studies and interdisciplinary education. Sterling expressed his hope that students would gain more international learning experiences through exchanges between the two institutions.
Xie Shi, vice president of SYSU, said that the education concepts of SYSU are highly compatible with St. John's College’s. With a solid foundation, he hopes that the two sides can further broaden their collaboration scope, provide more opportunities for exchanges and visits, and jointly forge a brighter future.
The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation holds profound significance in opening up broader horizons for future cooperation and exchanges between Sun Yat-sen University and St. John's College.
