Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center and the University of New South Wales, Australia, Brien Holden Eye Research Institutehave been working on the global problem of juvenile myopia and dedicated to "myopia clinical translational research" over the past decade. After years of efforts, from looking for the pathological factors of myopia to enhance the control of myopia development, preliminary results have came into the market in eight countries or regions now.

In view of his outstanding contribution to the myopia control joint project, Professor Ge Jian, from Zhongshan myopia center, was rewarded the 2011 Excellence in Innovation Award by Australian joint research center. This award was recently conferred by Australian Consul General Grant Dooley, on behalf of Australian Government.

In the meantime, to further strengthen Sino-Australian cooperation in the field of ophthalmology visual sciences, SYSU Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center and University of New South Wales, Australia, Brien Holden Eye Research Institute are working together to establish Australia China Centre for Optometry Research and Development, ACCORD. The center works on comprehensive multidisciplinary clinical research, striving for a breakthrough on new contact lens materials and ophthalmic instruments and technology. Recently, the cooperation agreement signing ceremony was held in Australia Consulate in Guangzhou.
